Is it good enough to just leave the handling of your Google Places listing to Google?

Let’s have a look at one example. Hotel Villa Emilia is a great hotel in Barcelona, Spain. When searching for them by name on Google this is the result:

Notice that the map does not indicate a location in central Barcelona. Rather it indicates a location in the lovely countryside to the north of Barcelona, some 43.6 km from the actual hotel location.

Why the confusion? It seems as though the hotel has not had the opportunity to claim its Google Place listing and correct the map marker. This example stresses how important it is for hotels to be proactive in claiming their Google Places listings, ensuring the correctness of the info and reaping the many benefits of a verified and completed Google Places Listing.
