Guests are no longer just typing “hotel in Mayfair”. They’re asking full questions in Google, AI, ChatGPT-style tools, and voice assistants like:
“Which boutique hotel near Hyde Park is best for families?”
“Where can I stay in London with parking and late check-out?”
“Best 5-star hotel near Paddington for a weekend break?”
Travellers are already using Generative AI during planning and they’re finding it works incredibly well for them. Exploration in this way for hotels and Travel is growing exponentially. Phocuswright reports at least 78% of travellers found GenAI results helpful for trip planning and in-destination use. And in the UK, 20% of travellers say they’re comfortable using AI for trip planning (up from 15% in 2024).
At the same time, Google’s AI results can reduce traditional organic clicks. One study highlighted a 34.5% drop in position 1 CTR when AI Overviews were present.
That is why hotels need GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) and AIO (AI Overviews Optimisation) alongside traditional SEO.
